Himalayan Salt is a type of Halite from the Punjab region of Pakistan. The mine is located about 300 kms from the Himalayas, giving it its name. Himalayan Salt consists of 85% +/- sodium chloride, as well as a mix of potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, oxygen, hydrogen, bicarbonate, bromide, borate, strontium, fluoride, and many additional trace elements. Some reports claim Himalayan Salt contains a full spectrum of 84 minerals and trace elements.
Color can range greatly based to the trace minerals in each particular vein from the mine and includes the following colors:
Red, Pink, Salmon, White, Black, Grey
Himalayan Salt comes in many forms, including lamps, candleholders, rough pieces, and fine grained salt. It is thought to have many health benefits including:
Naturally Occuring Iodine: Natural Salt has this mineral essential to avoiding diseases like goiter, while refined salt has Iodine added back into it.
Less Sodium per serving: Because the crystal structure is larger than refined salt, one teaspoon of salt is actually 25% less than traditional refined salt.
A Natural Mineral Mix: The variety of minerals found in Himalayan Salt is thought to help regulate water content, balance PH, prevent muscle cramping, lower blood pressure, strengthen bones, improve libido, reduce signs of aging, improve circulation, and detoxify the body (FitLifeTV)
Allergen Reducer: Salt Lamps are thought to help reduce allergens, moisture, and pollutants in the area.
